The Medical Records Technician (Office Automation) position at the Jacksonville Naval Hospital involves managing patient medical records and ensuring accurate documentation for inpatient care. The role requires shift work, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and is essential for maintaining the integrity of health information systems within the hospital's Admissions Department.

Responsibilities

• Confirm eligibility status and requirements of patients to create appropriate inpatient encounters.
• Coordinate the collection and release of patient valuables and personal effects.
• Retrieve electronic health information from systems storing medical records as needed for direct inpatient care.
• Prepare, create, and electronically submit birth certificate applications and congratulatory birth correspondence, verifying the accuracy of documents.
• Use computer programs to perform admission and disposition functions.
• Utilize automated healthcare systems to research medical documents.

Requirements

• One year of general experience in clerical, office, or related work indicating ability to manage medical records and utilize office software.
• Experience with medical terminology and documentation in electronic health record systems such as GENESIS and HAIMS.
• Knowledge of regulatory rules and regulations regarding patient privacy and HIPAA compliance.
• A qualified typist with a typing speed of 40 words per minute with three or fewer errors.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in a medical treatment facility or similar healthcare environment.
• Familiarity with the Defense Health Agency's health information management systems.
