About the position

The Medical Scientist I (Research Technician) position at the University of Florida involves performing standardized laboratory tests and experiments in a BSL2 and BSL3 microbiology laboratory. The role focuses on developing antimicrobial drug regimens to optimize treatment for infections caused by tuberculosis and multidrug-resistant bacteria. The position requires adherence to strict biosafety protocols and involves data analysis, preparation of solutions, and maintaining laboratory equipment.

Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory tests/experiments in the BSL-2 and BSL-3 laboratories following established procedures or protocols.
• Conduct studies using Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and generate standard operating procedures and reports.
• Perform data analysis and present experimental data clearly and concisely to the project manager and supervisors.
• Prepare sterile solutions for use in microbial assays.
• Prepare solutions and reagents following standard laboratory procedures.
• Prepare, clean, and sterilize glassware and instruments.
• Solve laboratory equipment and experimentation set up problems.
• Maintain a detailed notebook clearly describing the studies and results.
• Assist in design and preparation of all models, both animal and hollow fiber.
• Monitor inventory levels and count/record orders upon receipt.
• Assist with literature searches and adapt new methods to meet the experimental needs of the laboratory.
• Assist with creating graphs for presentation and publication.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in biology or a closely related life science field.
