The Medical Secretary plays a crucial role in providing clerical support for various cardiology services, including interventional radiology, non-invasive cardiology, and invasive cardiology services such as Echo, Nuclear Cardiology, Cardiopulmonary Rehab, EKG, EEG, and Pacer Clinic. This position involves a variety of administrative tasks that are essential for the smooth operation of the department. The Medical Secretary is responsible for answering phones, processing reports, typing, posting charges, and handling payroll. The work schedule is primarily Monday through Friday from 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM, with optional Saturday shifts available. In this role, the Medical Secretary must obtain and document complete and accurate patient information, ensuring that messages reach the appropriate individuals in a timely manner. This includes verifying patient demographic and financial information and entering all relevant data into the billing system according to established policies and procedures. The Medical Secretary is also tasked with completing necessary forms and letters for patient care, collecting payments at the time of visit, and accurately completing cash sheets for daily delivery. The position requires effective scheduling of patients based on protocols and assisting them in accessing specialty care and testing as directed by physicians. The Medical Secretary must maintain accountability for their actions, act as a patient advocate, and demonstrate problem-solving abilities while seeking assistance from supervisors when necessary. Additionally, the role involves processing telephone calls and messages promptly and efficiently, compiling and distributing reports, and collaborating with scheduling, registration, and billing departments to ensure optimal patient care. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
