About the position

The Medical Supply Technician (Sterile Processing) plays a crucial role in the Veterans Health Administration by ensuring the proper decontamination, preparation, assembly, inspection, sterilization, and high-level disinfection of medical devices and supplies. This position is essential for maintaining the safety and effectiveness of reusable medical devices used in patient care, and it involves operating various sterilization equipment while adhering to strict guidelines and protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Decontaminate, prepare, and assemble medical devices and supplies.
  • Inspect and sterilize endoscopes, transducers, probes, and other reusable medical devices.
  • Perform high-level disinfection of critical and semi-critical reusable medical devices.
  • Package and label peel pouch items for distribution.
  • Support the pickup and delivery of reusable medical devices for the medical center.
  • Familiarize with Manufacturer Instructions for Use (MFI/IFU) for reprocessing instruments and equipment.
  • Operate sterilization equipment and maintain knowledge of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Receive guidance from experienced staff and maintain current knowledge of reprocessing procedures.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English is mandatory.
  • Six months of experience in a related field or education equivalent to the position.
  • Knowledge of current MST practices and ability to demonstrate relevant skills.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment physical examination and background check.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a clinical setting as a surgical technician or similar role.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and sterilization processes.
