The Medical Supply Technician position at the Phoenix Indian Medical Center is a vital role within the Integrated Surgical Services/Inpatient OB, Operating Room (OR), and Central Sterile and Receiving (CSR) Units. The incumbent will be responsible for a variety of tasks that ensure the proper decontamination, assembly, processing, sterilization, and issuance of medical supplies and instruments for nursing units, the operating suite, PIMC clinics, and field clinics. This position is essential for maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and safety in surgical environments, directly impacting patient care and outcomes. In this role, the Medical Supply Technician will account for and process surgical instruments, including complex loaner sets for both scheduled and emergent cases. The technician will assemble a wide variety of instrument sets for surgical procedures, utilizing expert judgment to select the appropriate equipment necessary for various surgical services. A critical aspect of the job involves visually inspecting instruments for cleanliness and any signs of damage or deterioration, ensuring that all tools meet the required standards before use. The technician will also be responsible for selecting the appropriate chemicals or washing agents for decontaminating surgical instruments, employing methods such as soaking in germicides, washing with detergent-blood solvents, and using ultrasonic units. Proper packaging of instruments based on sterilization methods is another key responsibility, which includes labeling and preparing trays as needed for clinical or surgical requirements.
