The Medical Support Assistant (Advanced) position at the Veterans Health Administration involves providing specialized administrative and clerical support within the Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) or Specialty Care Support Team. The role requires effective collaboration with healthcare providers and serves as a liaison between patients and clinical staff, ensuring quality healthcare services and efficient patient care delivery.

  • Setting the tone for perception concerning quality of healthcare services at the VA
  • Determining the nature of requests and providing the information desired using privacy rules and established clinic processes
  • Maintaining appointment schedules for one or more outpatient clinics
  • Reviewing clinic utilization and assisting with clinic access contingency plans
  • Supporting patient safety standards using correct identification of all patients
  • Explaining VA's mandate to collect insurance information to veterans and their families
  • Collecting, scanning, and updating health insurance information
  • Contributing to the revenue collection process by identifying patients with third-party insurance
  • Training other MSA levels on the Insurance Capture Buffer (ICB) process
  • Promoting veteran registration for and utilization of My HealtheVet
  • Performing additional duties as assigned by the supervisor
  • U.S. Citizenship is required
  • Six months of experience in clerical, office, customer service, or administrative work
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English
  • Ability to serve a probationary period
  • Subject to background/security investigation
  • Participation in seasonal influenza vaccination program
  • Participation in COVID-19 vaccination program
  • One year experience working in a clinical environment coordinating clinic schedules
  • Experience scheduling patients in medical appointment software
