About the position

The Advanced Medical Support Assistant (A-MSA) at the Orlando VA Medical Center is responsible for providing specialized administrative support to healthcare professionals and ensuring efficient patient care operations. This role involves managing patient appointments, maintaining communication with the healthcare team, and handling administrative tasks to facilitate the delivery of medical services. The A-MSA plays a crucial role in coordinating patient care and ensuring compliance with healthcare policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain effective communication with the patient interdisciplinary team and other agencies.
  • Work within the team to set priorities and deadlines, adjusting the flow of work to meet patient needs.
  • Answer and refer all visitors and telephone calls promptly and courteously.
  • Schedule, cancel, and reschedule patient appointments and consults.
  • Maintain and monitor patient appointment schedules, communicating delays to staff and patients.
  • Analyze situations to determine appropriate decisions or escalate to higher authority as needed.
  • Resolve local administrative complaints and refer others to appropriate authorities.
  • Update and verify patient demographic information.
  • Provide information regarding clinic and hospital policies to patients and staff.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and records, scanning and entering information into VISTA and CPRS.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Six months of experience in clerical, office, customer service, or administrative work, or one year above high school, or a combination of experience and education.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English is mandatory.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment physical examination and background/security investigation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record systems.
