About the position

The University of Rochester is seeking a Clinical Technologist to provide specialized testing and support for the CoreLab. This position requires the ability to work independently under the direction of laboratory leadership, performing complex technical assignments that require theoretical insight and interpretation. The Technologist will be responsible for instrument maintenance, daily quality control, and adherence to all policies. Excellent communication skills are essential for interacting with internal and external clients. The role demands a detail-oriented individual who can think independently and work flexibly in a team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes patient samples using current, moderately complex laboratory methods/instrumentation (40%)
  • Adheres to quality control and quality assurance protocols (10%)
  • Reports results of patient sample analysis (10%)
  • Performs the duties of Clinical Technologist III or II as needed (10%)
  • Participates in activities supporting laboratory operations, including rotation to alternate lab site (as needed), answers telephone inquiries and performing good documentation practices (20%)
  • Performs method/instrument troubleshooting as needed (5%)
  • Performs instrument preventative maintenance as scheduled or needed (5%)
  • Participates in the training of other technologists, technicians and/or residents.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Biology and 1 year of relevant clinical laboratory experience required
  • Associate's degree (AAS) with a total of 90 credit hours (per NYS distribution requirements) and 1 year of relevant clinical laboratory experience required
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Licensed Clinical Lab Technologist per New York State upon hire required
