About the position

The Medical Technologist position at Trinity Health involves performing qualitative and quantitative laboratory tests on patient specimens in the Core Lab Department. This role requires analyzing test results, preparing samples, and demonstrating expertise in clinical significance and test procedures. The position is part-time and operates during the evening shift, contributing to the overall patient care and laboratory efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Perform qualitative and quantitative laboratory tests on patient specimens according to established standards and practices.
  • Analyze test results and prepare samples for testing.
  • Record and enter laboratory computer results of tests performed.
  • Report results of tests ordered stat and highly abnormal results in a timely manner.
  • Perform required quality control and equipment maintenance.
  • Notify appropriate personnel of problems such as unacceptable specimens and equipment malfunctions.
  • Prepare standards, reagents, and other materials used in testing.
  • Contact nursing unit or client office personnel regarding results and clarification of requests.
  • Participate in department and section meetings, continuing education, and quality assurance programs.
  • Assist in training of technologists, technicians, lab assistants, and clerical staff.

Requirements

  • Baccalaureate degree in Medical Technology or Medical Laboratory Science from an accredited college or university.
  • Relevant work experience in a medical laboratory is preferred.
  • Certification as Medical Technologist (MT), Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) - ASCP or NCLS certification preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with various healthcare personnel.
  • Analytical skills to interpret and analyze complex test results.
  • Attention to detail and organizational ability to manage a large volume of samples.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with laboratory information systems.
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety protocols.
