About the position

The Medical Technologist (Ancillary Testing Coordinator) position at the Department of Veterans Affairs involves overseeing and coordinating ancillary laboratory testing services within the VA Medical Center and its outreach functions. The role requires the development and implementation of policies and procedures for ancillary testing, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and providing technical expertise and training to ancillary testing sites. The incumbent will also be responsible for quality control, data analysis, and maintaining accreditation for testing services.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Ancillary Testing Coordinator for the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service.
  • Develop and recommend policies and procedures for ancillary testing procurement and service requirements.
  • Ensure CLIA licenses are maintained at all ancillary testing sites.
  • Act as a technical advisor to all ancillary testing sites.
  • Consult with the laboratory Director to identify ancillary testing needs and analyze emerging trends and technology.
  • Develop technical bulletins, procedures, and training materials for ancillary testing programs.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory agencies for patient testing and proficiency testing.
  • Perform statistical analysis on quality control and quality assurance data.
  • Implement and monitor protocols for quality control and proficiency testing across all testing sites.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • A bachelor's degree in medical laboratory science or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Completion of a medical technology clinical practice program accredited by recognized agencies.
  • Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT), Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) by ASCP-BOC, ASCP-BOR, or AMT.
  • One year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in a related position.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in laboratory information technology systems.
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws regarding laboratory testing.
  • Experience in quality assurance and quality control procedures.
