About the position

The Medical Technologist in the Bone Marrow Laboratory at UAB Medicine is responsible for performing and reporting results of routine and complex laboratory procedures on body tissues and fluids. This role involves assisting in evaluating new instruments and methods, quality control, and supporting apheresis procedures and educational sessions within the laboratory.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and complex laboratory procedures on body tissues and fluids.
  • Check accuracy and report results of laboratory tests.
  • Assist supervisor and team lead with evaluating new instruments and methods.
  • Prepare reagents and maintain quality control information.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and laboratory processes as needed.
  • Assist with apheresis procedures and bone marrow evaluations.
  • Coordinate educational sessions and quality control/improvement activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory or a related field.
  • Completion of a twelve-month internship in a Medical Technology program approved by NAACLS.
  • Certification from ASCP or AMT required within fifteen months from date of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification may be required within thirty days from date of hire.
