About the position

The Chief Medical Technologist (Laboratory Manager) at the Department of Veterans Affairs is responsible for managing and supervising all phases of laboratory service operations. This role involves providing expert guidance in laboratory medicine, developing quality management programs, managing regulatory affairs, and overseeing budget and resource utilization. The position requires collaboration with various stakeholders and participation in educational programs related to laboratory science.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and supervise all phases of laboratory service operations.
  • Provide guidance and serve as a subject matter expert on laboratory medicine.
  • Develop and maintain quality management programs.
  • Consult with local, network, and national program officials.
  • Manage regulatory affairs and compliance within the laboratory.
  • Develop and manage program budgets and resource utilization.
  • Participate in educational programs affiliated with laboratory science training institutions.
  • Keep abreast of current research and technical advances in laboratory medicine.
  • Integrate new techniques and procedures into laboratory programs.
  • Provide direction and guidance for laboratory staff.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Bachelor's degree in medical laboratory science or related field from an accredited institution.
  • Completion of a medical technology clinical practice program accredited by recognized agencies.
  • Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT), Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) by recognized certification bodies.
  • At least one year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in laboratory management.

  • Experience in managing a large staff of laboratory personnel.

  • Project management skills for planning and executing laboratory programs.
