About the position

The Medical Technologist position at Emerson Hospital involves performing a variety of routine and specialized diagnostic laboratory tests, particularly in the area of Hematology. The role requires processing and analyzing specimens, reporting results, and maintaining laboratory instrumentation. This full-time position operates during the evening shift, from 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and specialized diagnostic laboratory tests on environmental, blood, and body fluid specimens.
• Process and analyze all specimens submitted for clinical analysis.
• Report results to appropriate personnel.
• Maintain instrumentation utilized in the laboratory.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Hematology, Biology, Basic Sciences, or Medical Laboratory Science.
• Graduate of an approved program in Medical Laboratory Science.
• Minimum one year of experience in all areas of the Laboratory or Hematology Department.
• ASCP or NCA certification required, or ASCP or NCA eligible with certification achieved within 6 months of employment.
• Ability to take action based on review of policies, protocols, procedures, and methodologies.
• Knowledge of basic laboratory methods and analytical principles in Hematology.
• Working knowledge of automated and manual laboratory equipment.
• Manual dexterity sufficient to effect venipuncture and safely handle specimens.
• Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations with limited standardization.
• Good knowledge of quality control principles.
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
• Computer skills and ability to maintain confidential information.
