About the position

The Medical Technologist Lead in the Bone Marrow Laboratory at UAB Medicine is responsible for performing, interpreting, and reporting results on complex laboratory procedures involving body tissues and fluids. This role includes evaluating new instruments, ensuring quality control, and leading troubleshooting efforts. The position may also involve supervisory duties and coordination of educational and operational tasks within the laboratory.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and complex laboratory procedures on body tissues and fluids.
  • Interpret and report results accurately according to laboratory procedure manuals.
  • Evaluate new instruments and methods, ensuring correct reagent preparation and quality control.
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts and monitor equipment maintenance performance.
  • May perform apheresis and/or bone marrows as needed.
  • Coordinate education and computer operations within the laboratory.
  • Assume supervisory functions within the section as requested.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory or a related field.
  • One year of related experience in a laboratory setting.
  • Currently credentialed as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) by ASCP or certified as a Medical Technologist (MT) by AMT.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification may be required within 30 days of employment.
