About the position

The Medical Laboratory Technician role at MaineHealth is responsible for independently performing and monitoring laboratory testing of patient specimens. This includes confirming, interpreting, correlating, and reporting both normal and abnormal patient results. The technician is also tasked with recognizing technical, instrumental, and physiological problems, initiating resolutions, and ensuring accuracy and quality control in laboratory operations.

Responsibilities

• Independently perform and monitor laboratory testing of patient specimens.
• Confirm, interpret, correlate, and report normal and abnormal patient results.
• Recognize technical, instrumental, and physiological problems and initiate resolutions.
• Ensure accuracy and quality control in laboratory operations.
• Maintain required instruments and perform necessary maintenance.

Requirements

• Associate's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or a similar field required.
• Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician required within six months of hire by a recognized professional organization (e.g., ASCP, AMT).
• May be asked to work at other sites/locations as needed.
