About the position

The Medical Technologist/Medical Lab Technologist - Section Supervisor at Granville Health System is responsible for overseeing laboratory operations, ensuring accuracy in laboratory billing, reporting results, and maintaining compliance with safety standards. This role involves leadership responsibilities, including staffing management during the absence of the manager, assisting with budget requirements, and promoting teamwork within the department and with hospital personnel. The supervisor will also perform testing across various laboratory sections and ensure quality control and staff competency.

Responsibilities

  • Perform laboratory duties including accuracy of laboratory billing and appropriate reporting of laboratory results.
  • Communicate and market the lab to outside resources.
  • Maintain, update, develop, and write policies and procedures for all areas of the laboratory.
  • Demonstrate leadership to ensure appropriate staffing during the manager's absence.
  • Assist the Laboratory Director with budget requirements including capital requests and goals.
  • Perform venipuncture phlebotomy on laboratory patients.
  • Maintain workflow in the lab by prioritizing, processing, and resulting physician orders.
  • Meet hospital and laboratory safety standards.
  • Maintain health information and confidentiality guidelines established by GHS.
  • Promote teamwork with department staff, physicians, hospital personnel, patients, and families.
  • Perform testing in all areas of the laboratory, ensuring quality, accuracy, and timeliness of test results.
  • Assume responsibility for assigned sections of the laboratory within established federal guidelines.
  • Conduct quality control, maintenance, proficiency testing, and competency testing of all personnel.
  • Develop new test methods and provide staff education.
  • Monitor quality and accuracy of staff performing tests in assigned areas.
  • Participate in the Laboratory Performance Improvement program to enhance skills, lab productivity, communication, and teamwork.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science with appropriate MT(ASCP) certification (or equivalent) and 1 year of laboratory training or experience in high complexity testing preferred; OR Associate Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science with MLT(ASCP) certification (or equivalent) and 2 years of laboratory training or experience in high complexity testing preferred.
  • Current NC driver's license.
  • Experience with computers, filing, leadership skills, laboratory billing experience, quality control, performance improvement, compliance, and CPT code knowledge preferred.
  • Pursue continuing education programs consistent with Granville Health System requirements.
  • Participate in educational conferences to maintain professional knowledge and skills related to laboratory responsibilities.
  • Training in supervision and management skills will be required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in high complexity testing preferred.
  • Knowledge of hospital and laboratory information systems.
  • Experience with inventory, ordering, purchasing, and receiving laboratory and hospital supplies.
