About the position

The Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Technician position at McLaren Health Care involves conducting laboratory tests and analyses to provide critical information for the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases. The role requires adherence to established accreditation guidelines and quality control standards, ensuring accurate and reliable laboratory results.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct chemical analyses of blood, urine, spinal fluids, and gastric juices to determine normal and abnormal components.
  • Analyze blood cells by counting and identifying them using microscopic techniques.
  • Prepare blood, plasma, and platelets for transfusions by conducting blood group, type, and compatibility tests.
  • Ensure the operation of laboratory analyzers and equipment by calibrating, performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting malfunctions, and maintaining equipment inventories.
  • Maintain laboratory supplies inventory by checking stock levels, anticipating needs, placing orders, and verifying receipt of supplies.

Requirements

  • Baccalaureate degree in medical technology or related fields from an accredited institution (for Medical Technologist).
  • Completion of an internship program from an approved school of medical technology or clinical laboratory science (for Medical Technologist).
  • ASCP MT certification or eligibility to take the MT certification exam, with certification required within one year of hire or transfer (for Medical Technologist).
  • Associate degree in an accredited Medical Laboratory Technician Program (for Medical Laboratory Technician).
  • Completion of clinical internship (for Medical Laboratory Technician).
  • ASCP MLT certification or eligibility to take the MLT certification exam, with certification required within one year of hire or transfer (for Medical Laboratory Technician).

Nice-to-haves

  • One year of experience in a diversified hospital laboratory.
