About the position

The Medical Technologist II position at Emory Healthcare focuses on performing laboratory tests and procedures in the field of Microbiology. This role is essential for assisting in the diagnosis, study, treatment, and prevention of diseases. The position is PRN, requiring flexibility in scheduling, including rotating holidays and weekends, and involves a commitment to high-quality laboratory services that enhance patient health.

Responsibilities

• Perform various laboratory tests and procedures on patient specimens adhering to standard operating procedures.
• Conduct standardized and semi-routine biological, chemical, hematological, immunological, immunohematological, microbiological, and serological tests.
• Evaluate complex cases to determine the appropriateness of test results and whether they should be released, repeated, or referred to a pathologist.
• Serve as a key operator for the implementation of new equipment and procedures.
• Participate in the laboratory's safety committee and maintain safety and infection control policies and procedures.
• Teach medical technology theory and techniques to lower-level technologists and develop teaching plans and assessment tools.
• Perform venipuncture or capillary puncture to obtain blood specimens.
• Carry out other related duties as required.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or a related field.
• Certification by an accredited agency such as MT (ASCP), MLS (ASCP), or equivalent.
• Two years of experience in a laboratory setting, specifically in microbiology.
