About the position

The Medical Technologist (Supervisory Technologist) position at the Oklahoma City VA Healthcare System involves overseeing laboratory operations and ensuring high-quality testing and analysis for Veterans. This role requires advanced knowledge in medical laboratory science and includes responsibilities such as staff supervision, quality management, and compliance with federal regulations. The position is full-time, primarily on the night shift, and is part of the Phology and Laboratory Service.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and schedule ongoing work in the laboratory.
  • Adjust staffing levels and work procedures as needed.
  • Collaborate in laboratory scheduling processes.
  • Supervise day-to-day performance of complex tests.
  • Monitor test analyses and specimen examinations for quality assurance.
  • Initiate corrective actions for deviations in test performance.
  • Orient, train, and assess competency of staff.
  • Implement and monitor quality management activities.
  • Perform full range of supervisory duties including performance evaluations and staff recommendations.
  • Manage section technical procedures and maintain inventory programs.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Current certification as a Medical Technologist (MT), Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) from recognized boards.
  • Bachelor's degree in medical laboratory science or related field from an accredited institution.
  • Completion of a medical technology clinical practice program accredited by recognized agencies.
  • Two years of post-certification clinical laboratory experience or five years of clinical laboratory experience performing moderate/high complexity testing.

Nice-to-haves

  • Three years of supervisory experience as a Medical Technologist.
  • Experience in quality management within a laboratory setting.
