About the position

The Medical Technologist at Dignity Health Nevada plays a crucial role in performing clinical testing across various laboratory areas, including blood bank, chemistry, serology, hematology, urinalysis, coagulation, special chemistry, and microbiology. This position is responsible for obtaining specimens, conducting laboratory tests, ensuring quality control, and maintaining laboratory equipment. The technologist also provides instruction to medical technology students and must adhere to established protocols while effectively communicating results and issues to management.

Responsibilities

  • Perform clinical testing in areas such as blood bank, chemistry, serology, hematology, urinalysis, coagulation, special chemistry, and microbiology.
  • Obtain or receive specimens and perform laboratory tests according to written procedures.
  • Understand methods and principles of laboratory testing and evaluate quality control daily.
  • Inform the Chief Technologist or Laboratory Manager of any problems encountered during testing.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on laboratory instrumentation.
  • Interpret results for accuracy, acceptability, and critical limits.
  • Organize work to meet established deadlines and record all data obtained.
  • Instruct Medical Technologist (MT) and Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) students.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in Medical Technology or a related field of study.
  • At least two years of experience as a Medical Technologist, or less for entry-level positions as determined by the manager.
  • Must be licensed by the state of Nevada as a Medical Technologist.
  • National certification as MT (ASCP) or equivalent required.
  • Generalist experience desirable with a strong background in blood bank, chemistry, hematology, coagulation, and microbiology/serology.
  • Ability to work independently and communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to handle and process confidential information.

Nice-to-haves

  • General Supervisor license preferred.
