About the position

The Medication Technician/Caregiver position at The Ridge at Westover Hills Memory Care involves providing essential daily care to residents, particularly in a memory care environment. The role focuses on assisting with medication administration, supporting residents with activities of daily living, and maintaining a safe and clean environment. Responsibilities

  • Assists with medication as directed by the LPN and/or RN, and in compliance with the Policies and Procedures.
  • Receives report from the previous shift and LPN or Medication Technician.
  • Reads the Communication Log and Shower Schedule for information and changes at the beginning of each day.
  • Documents in the Communication Log and Progress notes, as appropriate throughout the day.
  • Assists residents with activities of daily living, environmental orientation, vital signs, first aid wound care, and communication with outside health care professionals.
  • Maintains clean, neat, comfortable, safe environment for residents, staff, and visitors including housekeeping duties as assigned.
  • Assures door is alarmed at all times, if needed.
  • Reports deficiencies observed in resident apartments clothing/linen and community to administrator.
  • Completes Incident Report form as needed for any unusual occurrence.
  • Observes and communicates any changes in resident physical or mental status as directed.
  • Avoids loss, breakage, and waste of supplies and equipment.
  • Maintains a neat and orderly Medication Room.
  • Assists residents moving in or out as directed.
  • Maintains current resident record for each resident including but not limited to, obtaining current physician orders, clarifying orders, and alert and monthly charting.
  • Maintains, transcribes and documents in the Medication Assistance Record according to Policy and Procedure.
  • Maintains service plans.
  • May participate in Service Plan reviews, as directed.
  • Performs resident care with an awareness of dignity and individuality, with understanding and concern.
  • Abides by established policies and procedures of community.
  • Looks for ways to improve community functioning.
  • Keeps work areas neat and clean; helps maintain appearance of community.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the director or administrator.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Ability to read, speak, write, comprehend, and effectively communicate in English.
  • Previous experience preferred with medications, but not necessary.
  • Prior experience in a similar position with a long-term or related community preferred.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of infection control and universal precautions.
  • Is thoroughly familiar with fire, missing persons and other emergency procedures, follows community policy and procedures detailed in fire and disaster plans.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in caregiving for at least 1 year.
  • Ability to spend long periods on feet and to ambulate quickly.
  • Excellent knowledge of emergency response and first aid (CPR).
  • Good time management skills.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong ethical standards.
