About the position

The Medication Technician (Med Tech) is responsible for administering medications and treatments to residents in accordance with medical orders, state regulations, and company policies. This role requires effective communication with residents, families, and staff, as well as the ability to observe and report changes in residents' conditions. The Med Tech must demonstrate compassion and respect for the residents' home environment while ensuring compliance with all health and safety regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide medication administration and treatments for residents according to doctor's orders and state regulations.
  • Take accurate medication orders and process them appropriately.
  • Order and secure medications, ensuring proper documentation and administration oversight.
  • Observe residents for changes in their physical, emotional, or mental conditions and report any unusual symptoms or incidents.
  • Ensure resident privacy and uphold resident rights during care.
  • Assist residents with activities of daily living when not performing medication duties.
  • Engage residents in meaningful conversation and socialization while providing care.
  • Complete all required documentation accurately and promptly.
  • Seek guidance from nursing staff or healthcare directors as needed.
  • Ensure sound infection control practices in medication management and delivery.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English.
  • Possess required licenses and certifications as mandated by state licensing authority.
  • Ability to remain calm under stressful situations.
  • Effective communication skills with residents, families, and staff.
  • Compassion for and desire to work with the elderly.
  • Demonstrated ability to work responsibly as a team member and independently.
  • Exceptional organizational skills.
  • Must meet all health requirements and pass a criminal background check.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a healthcare or assisted living environment.
  • Knowledge of diabetes care and management.
  • Familiarity with medication administration and documentation processes.
