About the position

The Medicinal Chemistry Scale-Up Research Scientist will be responsible for synthesizing compounds on various scales for biological evaluation, working independently within the medicinal chemistry scale-up group. The role involves experimental troubleshooting, methods development, and the execution of complex experimental procedures, while keeping abreast of current scientific literature relevant to the field.

Responsibilities

• Design and undertake experimental synthetic work to deliver material for internal customers on scales from tens to hundreds of grams.
• Independently develop and optimize processes for material delivery.
• Collaborate within the Scale-up group to enable rapid material delivery and share knowledge.
• Collate and interpret complex data systematically to guide project decisions and new research activities.
• Prioritize studies based on feasibility and project impact.
• Perform advanced experimental troubleshooting and incorporate new insights from scientific literature into research activities.
• Identify and introduce relevant emerging technologies to advance existing technology platforms.
• Explore the feasibility of applying new scientific principles or implementing novel experimental approaches to achieve project goals.
• Contribute to patent and publication preparation and independently prepare study presentations.

Requirements

• Experience working in a large-scale synthetic laboratory to deliver complex organic compounds.
• Flexible approach to work on a variety of scales.
• Experience using large-scale glassware (5L to 20L).
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as a team player.
• Some experience and understanding of process safety and hazard assessment.
• Diligent approach to safety matters.
• Very strong synthetic knowledge and mechanistic understanding.
• Education: BS with 6+ years, MS with 3 years, or PhD/post-doc with 0-3 years of experience in a relevant area.
