About the position

The Meeting and Event Planner at Southern Company is responsible for managing the complete process of over 30-40 internal and external meetings and events annually. This role emphasizes superior customer service and aims to deliver a best-in-class guest experience. The planner will consult with clients, manage logistics, negotiate contracts, and ensure all aspects of the events are executed flawlessly.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the planning and execution of events and meetings for Southern Company and its subsidiaries.
  • Consult with senior level clients to evaluate budget, scope, format and other logistical needs.
  • Negotiate and manage all supplier contracts and arrangements, including food and beverage, entertainment, external speakers, teambuilding, housing, production and event technology.
  • Build and maintain supplier relationships, as well as manage supplier/vendor performance.
  • Manage all activities at site location before, during and after event, including providing work direction to suppliers and support staff.
  • Create announcements and invitations for events.
  • Work with show producers to create and build event content.
  • Maintain data-tracking tools associated with reservations, attendee confirmations and housing.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required; Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) preferred.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of meeting and event planning experience in a full-time role required, preferably with previous 4-5-star hotel, corporate or association and sports and entertainment experience.
  • Proven effective interpersonal skills and client relations experience (C-Suite level highly preferred).
  • Proven analytical, organizational and project management skills.
  • General knowledge of business practices associated with procurement, such as budgeting, logistics coordination, and vendor management.
  • Strong communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and work well under pressure.
  • Ability to work efficiently with minimum supervision to make decisions and anticipate steps.
  • Proficient computer skills (MS Office applications required, experience with online registration systems like Swoogo or Cvent preferred).
