About the position

The Scale Clerk at Big River Steel is responsible for managing the weighing of inbound and outbound traffic delivering materials. This role ensures compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards while accurately capturing and recording weights for operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure Safety, Environmental, Quality requirements and ResponsibleSteel requirements are followed.
  • Captures tare weights on all applicable equipment at the beginning of each shift and before each barge begins to unload.
  • Obtains and verifies PO for incoming OTR traffic.
  • Scales in OTR traffic.
  • Directs OTR traffic to the correct pile location.
  • Weighs out each OTR vehicle and captures the receipted weight into IOM.
  • Prints 2 tickets for OTR traffic upon exiting; 1 ticket for the driver, and 1 ticket for BRS.
  • Enters the ticket information into a spreadsheet for verification and tracking.
  • Checks in mill service provider trucks for onsite barge unloading.
  • Captures mill service provider trucks weights in IOM.
  • Enters mill service provider truck weights into spreadsheet.
  • Compares truck driver log to barge/scale clerk log and to IOM report for a triple check process at the end of the shift and/or the start of every barge unload.
  • Closes notices once IOM report, scale clerk log, truck driver logs, and the daily barge log all match.
  • Releases barges upon completion of unloading/cleaning.
  • Publishes daily and ad-hoc reports as needed.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Proficient use of the English language in reading, writing, and speaking.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong organization and analytical skills.
  • Self-managing; works well with little supervision.
  • Geographically competent.
  • Ability to clearly communicate with internal and external parties regarding issues and changes.
  • High School degree or GED Equivalent.
  • 1 to 3 years of related experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
