About the position

The Melt Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the safety, production, quality, and scheduling performance of the Melt Department during the 3rd shift. This role involves direct supervision of production personnel in a high-volume foundry environment, ensuring that operational goals and objectives set by the Melt Manager are met. The supervisor will also participate in quality and safety audits to maintain compliance with ISO-9001:2015 standards.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise production personnel in the Melt Department during the 3rd shift.
  • Prepare and monitor daily and weekly shift work plans and staffing in conjunction with Production Control.
  • Ensure proper staffing of trained personnel in all key operational areas of the Melt department.
  • Appraise the Manager of any significant quality or productivity problems for immediate corrective action.
  • Achieve perform-to-schedule goals in coordination with Production Control, Quality Control, and Materials personnel.
  • Work with Maintenance and Human Resources to maximize production and staffing uptime.
  • Participate in quality and safety reviews and audits to improve work procedures and policies.
  • Perform furnace re-lines and manage refractory issues and melt temperatures.
  • Prepare chemistry samples and operate testing equipment such as spectrometers and tensile testing machines.
  • Direct the Ductile Iron treatment process and ensure iron integrity through analysis.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required; BS in Metallurgy, Industrial Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering preferred.
  • Minimum of 2+ years of actual Melt operations experience in a high-volume foundry.
  • Basic understanding of electric induction furnaces is beneficial.
  • Experience working in an ISO-9001:2015 environment is a plus.
  • Strong work ethic and excellent team-building skills are essential.
  • Professional PC literacy skills in MS Word and Excel are required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Professional certifications in relevant fields would be beneficial.
  • Experience with unionized work environments is preferred.
