The Membership Service Associate at the Downtown YMCA plays a crucial role in delivering exceptional customer service and ensuring member satisfaction. This position involves providing leadership through a comprehensive understanding of YMCA programs and services, directly impacting member retention and overall customer experience.

Responsibilities

  • Providing excellent service by having a great knowledge of YMCA programs, services, and systems.
  • Effectively communicating the mission, vision, and values of the YMCA.
  • Greeting and becoming familiar with program participants and members by name.
  • Handling all questions and concerns in a courteous, professional manner.
  • Gathering feedback from members and sharing it with supervisors to help improve service.
  • Maintaining a safe and clean facility at all times.
  • Selling the YMCA's value, not just its facilities, to enhance membership retention.
  • Enforcing policies and procedures to ensure a safe and professional environment.
  • Being observant and mindful of the impact the YMCA has on its members and the community.
  • Performing financial procedures, including money handling, registrations, and sales to ensure accuracy.
  • Executing opening and closing procedures as needed.
  • Being certified and prepared to implement emergency procedures in case of an emergency.
  • Attending mandatory staff meetings and city-wide customer service, sales, and program trainings.
  • Providing feedback and suggestions to improve services and/or systems.
  • Performing custodial duties as needed without being prompted.
  • Supporting Strong Community Campaign efforts.

Requirements

  • Minimum age of 20
  • Minimum of one year experience in customer service and cash handling
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of all Conditions of Employment (COE) for this position
  • Ability to frequently perform physical activities such as bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting, reaching, sitting, standing, walking, and moving up to 35 pounds
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to count and perform basic math associated with a cash drawer
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Mental alertness, problem-solving, organizational, and task management skills
  • Ability to make independent and sound decisions in a rapidly changing environment
  • Ability to relate to and work with diverse groups of people in a friendly manner
  • Neat and professional appearance at all times
