About the position

The Membership & Wellness Director at YMCA of Southwest Florida plays a crucial role in member engagement and retention, overseeing the Membership and Wellness department. This position involves strategic planning, community relationship building, and ensuring high-quality service from staff to enhance member experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for new member attraction through community involvement and relationship building with local businesses and organizations.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, and evaluates Membership and Wellness staff teams.
  • Provides leadership to ensure all staff is equipped to provide the best member service possible at all times.
  • Performs the duties of Membership Services Associate and leads by example if needed.
  • Builds relationships with members, program participants, and community partners.
  • Motivates and trains staff to improve membership and member retention.
  • Practices strong fiscal stewardship in the execution of financial and membership policies and procedures.
  • Develops and monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
  • Coordinates all membership reporting, surveys, and tabulations as requested by management.
  • Promotes program and membership enrollment with existing and potential members.
  • Is highly visible at the front desk and in the facility.
  • Coordinates program registration and marketing efforts to maximize enrollments and provides ongoing support to Program Directors on related issues.
  • Develops and directs high-quality relationship-based engagement strategies.
  • Models relationship building skills in all interactions with staff, volunteers, members, and the community.
  • Maintains confidentiality of sensitive personal and financial data for each member.
  • Monitors and enforces membership policies and procedures.
  • Manages the accuracy and productivity of day-to-day activities of the membership process.
  • Accurately processes new program registrations including cash transactions and maintenance of member records.
  • Responds to inquiries both in person, phone, and email.
  • Handles and solves member complaints.
  • Leads membership events including Member Appreciation Days at the YMCA and represents the YMCA at community events to promote the YMCA.
  • Responds to emergency situations by adhering to the safety policies and procedures set for the Association.
  • Responsible for upholding all staff safety requirements including cleaning protocols throughout the day.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • One to two years related managerial/team leadership experience.
  • Excellent personal computer skills and experience with standard business software.
  • Exemplary customer service skills.
  • Working knowledge in the fitness industry and certification requirements.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Ability to direct programs through supervision of volunteers and staff, development and monitoring of budgets, marketing and public relations, program development, and fundraising.
  • Able to prioritize, meet deadlines, and maintain confidentiality.
  • Positive attitude, self-starter with high energy.
  • Successfully complete State of Florida Criminal History Background Check requirements as well as meet the Association's policies on background screening.
  • Adhere to drug/alcohol/smoke-free workplace policy.

Nice-to-haves

  • YMCA Team Leader or Multi-team/Branch Leader certification preferred.
  • Possess a current accredited and nationally recognized wellness certification.
