About the position

The Membership Communications Program Manager is a pivotal role within Minnesota Public Radio (MPR) and American Public Media (APM), responsible for the strategic design and execution of various communication campaigns aimed at enhancing membership fundraising efforts. This position encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, including the management of print, telecommunications, and other communication channels to effectively engage and upgrade members. The role is integral to the MPR/APM Membership team, which is tasked with raising over $25 million annually in loyalty revenues. Under the direct supervision of the Sr. Manager of Regional Fundraising and with general oversight from the Sr. Manager of National Fundraising, the Membership Communications Program Manager will translate fundraising objectives into actionable campaigns. This includes developing direct mail and telecommunications strategies that are data-driven and aligned with organizational goals. The manager will also oversee vendor relationships to ensure the successful execution of these campaigns, maintaining a focus on quality and effectiveness. The role requires a collaborative approach, working closely with various teams to ensure cohesive messaging across all channels. This includes writing, editing, and proofing copy for direct mail solicitations and telemarketing scripts, as well as managing the logistics of campaign execution. The manager will also be responsible for tracking campaign performance, analyzing data, and making informed decisions to optimize future efforts. Additionally, the position involves maintaining a shared communications calendar and providing support during on-air member drives and special events. Overall, the Membership Communications Program Manager plays a crucial role in enhancing member engagement and driving fundraising success through innovative communication strategies and effective project management.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Sr. Manager of Regional Fundraising and Sr. Manager of National Fundraising to translate fundraising objectives into direct mail and telecommunications campaigns.
  • Track and evaluate campaign spend and results, ensuring alignment with goals and metrics.
  • Write, edit, and proof copy for direct mail solicitation campaigns and manage vendors in their execution.
  • Collaborate with membership team members to coordinate efforts with other communications channels and campaigns.
  • Write, edit, and proof telemarketing scripts and manage vendors for telecommunications campaigns.
  • Consistently apply core messaging across all membership communications and support the maintenance of messaging documents.
  • Coordinate the approval, execution, and recording of vendor contracts and invoicing for mail and telecommunications vendors.
  • Develop data-informed campaign segmentation and work with large data sets for analysis and reporting.
  • Establish and improve processes for communications campaign operations and documentation.
  • Collaborate with the membership team to coordinate timing and segmentation of communication pieces.
  • Execute and evaluate test and learn experiments to improve campaign performance.
  • Maintain organization and accuracy across multiple projects with overlapping deadlines.
  • Communicate effectively with internal partners and vendors to execute project plans and provide updates.
  • Collaborate with the Mid Level Giving team to design and implement upgrade strategies for mail and telecommunications.
  • Contribute to the development of new strategies to grow member numbers and revenue.
  • Stay current with best practices in fundraising, CRM, and communications as they apply to MPR/APM's work.
  • Maintain and improve a shared communications calendar.
  • Provide support during on-air member drives and membership special events as requested.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
  • 3 years experience in fundraising, communications, marketing, or other relevant experience
  • Copy development experience and excellent writing skills
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize across multiple projects
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Experience working with and analyzing large data sets
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with teams and external partners
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • Flexibility and adaptability to change
  • Proficient computer skills and ability to learn new software applications
  • Experience working with external vendors and providing feedback
