About the position

The Membership Experience Staff at the YMCA of the Virginia Peninsulas is responsible for delivering an outstanding member experience, ensuring high-quality service to members and guests. This role emphasizes welcoming, connecting, supporting, and engaging with all individuals who enter the facility, while promoting the mission and values of the YMCA.

Responsibilities

  • Support the mission, vision, and goals of the YMCA.
  • Promote a professional work environment by modeling values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
  • Lead initiatives that strengthen community foundations through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility programs.
  • Greet and check-in all individuals entering the building, ensuring a personal touch by using their names.
  • Implement daily operations of the Welcome Center, maintaining cleanliness and replenishing supplies as needed.
  • Complete membership and program paperwork, processing it into YMCA operational systems.
  • Provide tours of the facility to current and prospective members.
  • Efficiently manage multiple phone lines with appropriate greetings.
  • Attend scheduled staff meetings and trainings.
  • Ensure a safe environment for all members, guests, and program participants, following the Emergency Operations Plan.
  • Adhere to department standards and mandated abuse reporting requirements.
  • Act as a leader during emergency situations, reporting incidents as per the Emergency Communication Action Plan.
  • Promote and participate in YMCA fundraising efforts, including the Annual Support and United Way Campaigns.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Membership Department.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 16 years of age.
  • Preferred experience in member services, program, or a related field within the YMCA.
  • Ability to interface with basic software programs and use phone systems.
  • Mathematical skills for managing money and accounting procedures.
  • Business professional communication skills.
  • Certification in CPR/First Aid/AED/O2/CAP required within 60 days of hire.
  • Completion of required trainings including New Employee Orientation, Bloodborne Pathogens, Child Abuse Prevention, and Sexual Harassment.
  • Satisfactory completion of a criminal background check and Child Protective Services check.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in customer service or hospitality roles.
  • Familiarity with YMCA programs and services.
