About the position

As a Memory Care Activity Assistant at Brookdale Shawnee, you will play a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for residents within the dementia care community. Your primary responsibility will be to assist the Clare Bridge Program Manager or Coordinator in leading and implementing a calendar of person-centered, dementia-friendly programs tailored to meet the specific needs of each resident. This position is designed for individuals who are passionate about working with older adults and are committed to providing meaningful and purposeful engagement for those living with dementia. You will be part of a team that recognizes individual abilities and needs, encouraging independence while honoring residents' historical routines, interests, and preferences in the provision of care and programming. In this role, you will support the implementation of programs that encompass the seven domains of well-being: purposeful, intellectual, social, spiritual, emotional, and physical. You will engage residents in structured activities, including sensory-focused small groups for those who may not participate in larger settings. Your responsibilities will also include reviewing individual resident service plans, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations, and assisting in the coordination of special events within the community. Communication is key, as you will interact positively with residents, families, and community professionals to promote the benefits of Brookdale's dementia care program. Additionally, you will assist in meeting the department's quality improvement initiatives and may be required to support programming events outside the community, which could involve driving a community vehicle. This position may also require you to perform personal care, housekeeping, and dietary responsibilities as needed to maintain service quality. Overall, this role is essential in creating a supportive and engaging environment for residents, ensuring they receive the highest standard of care and engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Clare Bridge Program Manager or Coordinator in leading and implementing a calendar of person-centered dementia-friendly programs.
  • Engage residents in meaningful and purposeful dementia care programs to enhance their quality of life.
  • Support the implementation of programs that meet individual needs and interests of the residents.
  • Assist in leading and engaging residents in the 7 domains of well-being programs.
  • Review individual resident's service plans and complete program documentation as required.
  • Ensure dementia care programs comply with state, federal, and other regulations.
  • Provide guidance and resources to associates regarding programming and engagement.
  • Coordinate and participate in special events at the community, including family socials and open houses.
  • Communicate positively with residents, families, and community professionals about the dementia care program.
  • Assist with meeting the department's quality improvement initiatives.
  • Support plans and scheduled programming events outside the community, including driving a community motor vehicle.
  • Assist with the volunteer program, including training and supervising volunteers.
  • Perform personal care, housekeeping, and dietary responsibilities as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate's Degree preferred.
  • Minimum one year of previous experience with older adults and persons with dementia preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and a current 3-year driving abstract with no more than one moving violation.
