About the position

The Men's Ice Hockey - Goalie Coach (Assistant Coach)/Director of Operations at Colgate University is responsible for both coaching and managing the operational aspects of the men's ice hockey program. This role involves adhering to the head coach's philosophy, overseeing program operations, and providing athletic instruction. The individual will manage team travel, budget oversight, recruitment processes, and maintain compliance with NCAA regulations while also serving as a third assistant coach focusing on goalie training and development.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to the Head Coach's philosophy and execute strategic activities within Men's Ice Hockey.
  • Manage all aspects of team and staff recruiting travel, including arrangements for flights, accommodations, and itineraries.
  • Reconcile team and staff travel expenses according to University policies.
  • Manage procurement and purchasing for the program, negotiating with vendors for various functions.
  • Oversee budget elements related to travel, equipment, and personnel, making independent decisions within the approved budget.
  • Coordinate official and unofficial campus visits for prospective student-athletes, including travel arrangements and compliance documentation.
  • Collaborate with executive team members on game competition contracts.
  • Serve as a liaison with Athletics Administration for personnel and payroll issues.
  • Develop and coordinate program correspondence to key constituents such as donors and alumni.
  • Work with communications on social media strategy for the program.
  • Maintain confidential records including financial aid, compliance forms, and student-athlete schedules.
  • Assist in coaching the goalie position, including game tape exchange and student-athlete development oversight.
  • Execute scouting, film preparation, and competition preparation using video-editing software.
  • Maintain NCAA/institutional recruiting certification and attend required educational meetings.

Requirements

  • 2 years of experience in coaching and/or director of operations in hockey.
  • Experience in playing and/or coaching hockey goalies at a high level.
  • Proven competitive success.

Nice-to-haves

  • 2-5 years of collegiate coaching and/or operations experience in hockey.
  • Previous experience at an NCAA Division I institution.
