About the position

The Department of Corrections is currently offering a hire incentive bonus of up to $15,000.00 to newly hired Mental Health Clinician 3. The incentive bonus will be paid in two equal installments, minus mandatory deductions. The first installment will be paid 90 calendar days after the first day of employment, and upon demonstrating an overall mid-acceptable performance rating. The second and final installment will be paid upon the employee's successful completion of the probationary period. Payments will be due within sixty (60) calendar days of such request. To receive an incentive, employees are expected to agree to a three-year term of employment with the Department of Corrections. The Department of Corrections, Division of Health & Rehabilitation Services, is recruiting for a Mental Health Clinician 3 position located in Palmer, Alaska.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate mental health services for inmates housed at Palmer Correctional Center and Mat-Su Pretrial facility.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain treatment plans for inmates assigned to caseload.
  • Conduct diagnostic screenings and risk assessments of referred inmates through the evaluation of existing history, prior psychological testing, clinical observations, and direct interviews.
  • Supervise the location's mental health staff, including appointments, evaluations, and training.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree OR Master's degree from an accredited college in counseling, psychology, social work, child guidance, vocational rehabilitation, or a closely related field.
  • Progressively responsible professional experience performing psychotherapeutic casework.
  • Knowledge of the concepts, principles, and theories of human behavior and performance in various contexts, mental processes, or the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders.
  • Experience in planning, distributing, coordinating, and monitoring work assignments of others.

Nice-to-haves

  • Licensed as a Clinical Social Worker or a Licensed Professional Counselor.
  • Experience working in a 24-hour institutional setting.
  • Experience directly supervising staff.
