About the position

The Mental Health Co-Responder (Licensed Crisis Clinician) position involves working closely with law enforcement to respond to behavioral health crises in the community. The clinician will assess individuals in crisis, provide necessary interventions, and connect them to appropriate resources, all while working within the Emergency Services Division of Johnson County Mental Health. This role is designed for those who thrive in fast-paced environments and aim to improve the collaboration between mental health services and law enforcement.

Responsibilities

• Respond in person to 911 behavioral health calls alongside law enforcement to conduct assessments and recommend appropriate levels of care.
• Complete outreach to support individuals post-crisis by connecting them to necessary services.
• Conduct State Hospital Screenings for involuntary commitments to ensure individual safety and access to critical services.
• Review police reports to determine appropriate next steps and follow-up needs after initial calls.
• Collaborate with JCMHC teams and community agencies to advocate for individuals' needs.
• Submit clinical documentation regarding services provided and make necessary referrals to resources.
• Facilitate trainings for police departments on the co-responder role and mental health topics.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or other Human Services field.
• Kansas Behavioral Sciences licensure at the master's level in the area of focus.
• Ability to meet REJIS/KCJIS requirements for law enforcement positions.
• Successful completion of a background investigation, including post-offer polygraph and drug screen.

Nice-to-haves

• Kansas Behavioral Sciences license at the clinical level.
