About the position

The Bilingual Mental Health Consultant at PACE is responsible for providing direct clinical interventions to children and families within the Head Start and Early Head Start programs. This role focuses on supporting the mental health needs of economically disadvantaged families and children aged 0-5, ensuring compliance with relevant guidelines and standards. The consultant will work collaboratively with classroom teachers and home visitors to develop intervention plans and provide training on mental health issues.

Responsibilities

  • Complete all activities and paperwork associated with LACOE required mental health assessments, home visits, parent/teacher consults, and classroom observations.
  • Provide monthly on-site consultation and/or reflective supervision with families and staff as needed.
  • Design and implement program practices in response to identified behavioral and mental health issues.
  • Provide group, individual staff, and parent education trainings on mental health related issues.
  • Assist in providing special help for children with atypical behavior or development.
  • Assist in accessing and utilizing community mental health services.
  • Work in collaboration with other Head Start and Early Head Start service areas to refer children for diagnostic examination to confirm that emotional or behavior problems do not have a physical basis.
  • Participate in agency Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) meetings as requested.
  • Advise and assist in developmental screening and assessment of children and pregnant mothers.
  • Provide Training and Technical Assistance for staff and parents on mental health related topics.

Requirements

  • Bilingual in Spanish and English.
  • Independently licensed clinician with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.
  • Expertise in child and family mental health.
  • Acceptable licenses include Licensed Clinical Psychologist, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed School Social Worker, Licensed School Psychologist, Nurse Practitioner, or Child Psychiatrist.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with economically disadvantaged families.
  • Familiarity with Head Start Program Performance Standards and LACOE guidelines.
