About the position

The School-Based Mental Health Coordinator is responsible for providing mental health services within the school setting to enhance access for students who may otherwise struggle to receive such services. The role aims to improve students' functioning and build their skills and confidence to manage life challenges effectively. This position requires collaboration with school staff and community members to ensure comprehensive mental health support for students.

Responsibilities

• Provide mental health therapy and diagnostic services to children and their families.
• Demonstrate clinical competence and professionalism in all interactions.
• Develop and maintain relationships with school sites and community members to enhance collaborative efforts.
• Work effectively within a school team environment and communicate with colleagues and referral sources.
• Utilize a solution-focused, brief therapy model of practice.
• Coordinate and conduct the delivery of mental health-related services.
• Apply knowledge of emotional disturbances, mental health disabilities, and substance abuse in practice.
• Input mental health-related information using educational software systems.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in social work or equivalent qualifications as per ALSDE.
• Professional mental health experience or licensure as a licensed professional counselor or marriage and family therapist.
• Valid driver's license and dependable transportation for work purposes.
• Ability to work additional hours as needed to meet crises and deadlines.
• Proficiency in using technology for communication, planning, and reporting.
