The position involves providing psychiatric care to adult, adolescent, and/or child patients under the supervision of the Charge Nurse, focusing on milieu treatment and ensuring quality and safe delivery of care.
Responsibilities
- Functions as a milieu therapist to assigned patients, collaborating with the nurse therapist to determine a milieu treatment approach.
- Administers initial psychological assessments and provides consistent individual counseling focused on treatment goals during hospitalization.
- Participates in milieu therapy for patients on an individual or group basis, leading or assisting in milieu groups.
- Collaborates with unit staff in assessing and evaluating patient's mental status and maintains therapeutic relationships with patients.
- Coordinates and implements various aspects of the milieu environment to provide a therapeutic experience for patients.
- Records all appropriate information on patient charts and prepares regular reports describing each patient's mental status and functioning.
- Provides support and education to family members regarding the patient's status and participates in discharge planning.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in psychology or a related field preferred.
- Bilingual preferred (Spanish/English).
- BLS required.
