About the position

The Mental Health Counselor (MHC) at Episcopal High School will be an integral part of the campus support team, focusing on advocating for the mental health needs of students. This role involves providing short-term counseling, crisis intervention, and facilitating communication among various stakeholders to ensure students receive the necessary support for their mental health challenges. The MHC will also be responsible for developing and implementing programs that promote mental health awareness and address the emotional and behavioral concerns of students.

Responsibilities

  • Advocate for the mental health needs of all students by assessing student needs across the campus.
  • Ensure effective processes exist to support students in crisis or needing mental health support.
  • Provide short-term counseling and crisis intervention for mental health and situational concerns.
  • Refer students to school and community resources for mental health issues.
  • Conduct mental health and crisis assessments and develop individualized intervention plans.
  • Facilitate follow-up communication regarding mental health and crisis situations with relevant parties.
  • Address social, emotional, and behavioral concerns affecting academic success.
  • Coordinate with external partners for long-term care referrals.
  • Conduct annual needs assessments to determine support levels at each grade level.
  • Deliver instruction to enhance mental health awareness and promote healthy behaviors.
  • Develop diversified supports for various emotional concerns impacting student learning.
  • Coordinate resources for students and families addressing academic and emotional needs.
  • Assist in developing and facilitating educational program components and preventative services.
  • Implement proactive intervention strategies for students, teachers, and families.
  • Facilitate activities for the student Mental Health and Wellness club.
  • Participate in biweekly student support group and counseling team meetings.
  • Organize and participate in open house sessions with parents.
  • Provide case management services and maintain accurate records.
  • Serve as a liaison between students, families, and community resources.
  • Update professional knowledge to maintain licensure and best practices.

Requirements

  • Master's degree from an accredited institution in school counseling, psychology, social work, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in a mental health-related field.
  • Must hold a license such as School Counselor Certification, LPC, LPC-I, LMSW, or LCSW.
  • Experience in a mental health support role within a school environment, preferably with secondary age students.
  • Strong training and presentation experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and database applications.
