About the position

The Mental Health Counselor position at Arab American Family Services is a full-time role focused on providing high-quality mental health services to individuals, families, and communities. The counselor will engage in evidence-based therapeutic practices, conduct assessments, and develop treatment plans to support clients facing various mental health challenges. This role emphasizes collaboration with team members and community outreach to promote mental wellness and resilience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual, group, and family counseling sessions using evidence-based therapeutic techniques.
  • Conduct initial assessments, develop personalized treatment plans, and monitor client progress.
  • Collaborate with clients to establish and achieve treatment goals, using a strengths-based, culturally sensitive approach.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential documentation of sessions and client progress in accordance with company policies and legal regulations.
  • Stay informed of best practices and new research in mental health treatment to provide high-quality care.
  • Engage in interdisciplinary team meetings and consultations to support a comprehensive approach to client wellness.
  • Provide crisis intervention as needed and ensure clients' immediate safety and well-being.
  • Participate in community outreach and wellness programs, as appropriate, to support mental health awareness and access to services.
  • Participate in agency meetings and clinical staffing's and participate in weekly clinical supervision.

Requirements

  • Master's degree or higher in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or related field.
  • Current state licensure as an LCPC, LCSW, LMFT.
  • Minimum 1-3 years of experience in a clinical counseling role preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of evidence-based therapeutic approaches (e.g., CBT, DBT, EMDR, motivational interviewing).
  • Excellent communication and active listening skills with the ability to build rapport with diverse clients.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems preferred.
  • Commitment to confidentiality and ethical practice.
  • Knowledge of adolescent/family dynamics, substance abuse, and child abuse.
  • Experience providing treatment in schools within the local community.
  • Arabic speaking is a requirement (Polish & Spanish is a Plus+).
