About the position

The Mental Health Counselor position involves providing evidence-based programs for high-risk clients using a trauma-informed approach. The role is part of a small agency that has been contracting with the Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) for 20 years, focusing on delivering family preservation services and other therapeutic interventions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide mental health counseling to high-risk clients.
  • Utilize evidence-based practices in therapy sessions.
  • Conduct assessments and develop treatment plans.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of client progress.
  • Collaborate with other professionals and agencies as needed.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Social Work, Psychology, social or behavioral science, or closely related field.
  • At least two completed college courses in clinical counseling and/or therapeutic techniques.
  • For Family Preservation Services, three years of direct experience with families and children.
  • For other services, two years of direct experience with families and children.
  • Current licensure or certification in the State of Washington under the Department of Health's Healthcare Professional Credential Requirements.
  • Ability to pass a DCYF criminal background check.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certification in Evidence Based Practices (EBP) such as Promoting First Relationships (PFR), SafeCare, Incredible Years (IY), Positive Parenting Program (PPP).
  • Experience with trauma-informed care.
