About the position

The Mental Health Practitioner at Brightstep Wellness Center plays a crucial role in providing comprehensive mental health services to clients. This position involves performing crisis assessments, delivering therapeutic interventions, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure holistic care. The practitioner will work under supervision, contributing to the mission of empowering individuals on their mental health journeys while fostering personal and professional growth within a supportive environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform crisis assessments and interventions for clients, demonstrating responsiveness and composure in high-stress situations.
  • Provide adult clients with client education, rehabilitative mental health services, functional assessments, level of care assessments, and treatment plans under supervision.
  • Deliver skill-building services to child clients and complete treatment plans for them under supervision.
  • Provide comprehensive mental health assessments for adult clients, ensuring accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.
  • Facilitate individual and group therapy sessions using evidence-based therapeutic interventions.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure holistic care, participating in case conferences and treatment planning meetings.
  • Monitor and document client progress, maintaining accurate and confidential records in compliance with established protocols.
  • Develop and implement client-centered treatment plans, regularly reassessing and adjusting based on individual needs and progress.
  • Offer psychoeducation to clients and their families, promoting understanding and engagement in the therapeutic process.
  • Stay abreast of emerging trends and best practices in mental health, engaging in ongoing professional development.
  • Participate in regular supervision meetings with the treatment supervisor, seeking guidance for complex cases.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of mental health services through active participation in quality improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Possess at least 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours in behavioral sciences or related fields.
  • Accumulate 2,000 hours of experience providing services to individuals with mental illness, substance use disorder, traumatic brain injury, or developmental disability.
  • Complete additional training as described in section 245I.05, subdivision 3, paragraph (c) before providing direct contact services.
  • Fluent in the non-English language of the ethnic group to which at least 50 percent of clients belong.
  • Possess a master's or other graduate degree in behavioral sciences or related fields.
  • Minimum of two years of experience as a Mental Health Practitioner (MHP) or Mental Health Associate (MHA).
  • Have a valid Minnesota driver's license, reliable transportation, and valid insurance.
  • Must be a licensed mental health professional per Department of Human Services - LMFT, LICSW or LPCC.

Nice-to-haves

  • An understanding of diverse cultural backgrounds and the ability to adapt therapeutic approaches to meet the unique needs of a diverse clientele.
  • Familiarity with delivering mental health services through telehealth platforms.
  • Additional certifications or training in specific therapeutic modalities (e.g., trauma-informed care, dialectical behavior therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy).
  • Comfort with electronic health records (EHR) systems and other technology tools used in mental health practice.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with other mental health professionals, medical practitioners, and support staff.
  • Involvement or interest in community outreach initiatives, workshops, or mental health awareness campaigns.
