About the position
The Mental Health Program Assistant plays a crucial role in facilitating therapeutic interventions and providing direct and indirect patient care services under the guidance of the program manager. This position is focused on assessing patient needs, planning educational and therapeutic activities, and advocating for patient rights within a supportive team environment.
Responsibilities
- Assess and reassess patient risk levels and functioning.
- Document assessments and programming needs for patients and families.
- Plan and conduct educational and therapeutic activities.
- Assign patients to specific groups according to the treatment plan.
- Conduct scheduled group sessions and one-on-one education/activities as needed.
- Collaborate with all disciplines to achieve treatment goals.
- Advocate for patients' rights and represent their needs when necessary.
- Follow safety and security procedures to protect patients and the environment.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation, Music Therapy, Dance Therapy, or a related social/psychological field required.
- 0 to 2 years of experience in the mental health field preferred.
- BLS Tier 1 - Basic Life Support certification required, certified by the American Heart Association or Allina BLS.
