About the position

The Mental Health Program Technician in the SUD Unit at Focus Treatment Center plays a crucial role in supporting the clinical team in providing care to patients dealing with substance use disorders. This position involves direct patient interaction, including conducting psycho-educational groups, monitoring patient behaviors, and assisting with admissions and discharges. The technician works under the supervision of the Director of Nursing and is integral in ensuring a safe and supportive environment for patients.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the clinical team in patient care including psycho-educational group presentations.
  • Monitor patients and assist with their admission to the respective unit.
  • Perform admissions and orientation of patients to the unit.
  • Assist with patient discharges and document vital signs according to facility policy.
  • Observe patient behaviors and document in accordance with facility policy.
  • Conduct patient checks of belongings upon admission and supervise urine collection.
  • Conduct crisis intervention under the supervision of the Director of Nursing or Charge Nurse.
  • Escort patients to appointments and accompany them on outings and to nightly meetings.
  • Conduct educational lectures for patients and families during their stay and after discharge.
  • Document any contact with patients in accordance with department and facility procedures.
  • Serve as a liaison between clinical staff and patients, keeping staff informed of high-risk issues.
  • Participate in daily FLASH meetings and treatment teams as required.
  • Monitor meal times and bathroom breaks in the ED Unit and follow through with special assignments as requested.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of one year experience in the addiction field.
  • Good understanding of the addictive process and recovery skills.
  • Individuals in recovery from substance abuse must have a minimum of two years of continuous chemical abstinence and be active in support groups.
