About the position

The Mental Health Specialist I position is a part-time role within Behavioral Health Services, focusing on providing direct patient care in a psychiatric facility or day treatment program. The role involves observing patients' physical and psychological status, assisting in treatment plan development, and providing case management and counseling services under supervision. The position may require working rotating shifts and includes administrative duties as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct patient care to clients in a 24-hour psychiatric facility or day treatment program.
  • Observes patients' physical and psychological status and helps evaluate progress.
  • Records clinical notes on patients.
  • Assists professional staff in developing and modifying treatment plans and implements those plans.
  • Provides case management to mentally ill or elderly clients under supervision.
  • May provide counseling, money management, or other related services.
  • Arranges for and provides transportation for clients.
  • Provides basic client counseling in groups and on an individual basis.
  • Performs administrative duties as required.

Requirements

  • Completion of 45 semester units from an approved college or university, with a minimum of 30 units in Psychology, Social Work, Nursing, or related Social Science.
  • Possession of a valid California Driver License.
