About the position

The Mental Health Specialist II at Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care (UBHC) plays a crucial role in providing support and services to clients of the 988 Lifeline. This part-time position involves assessing client needs through various communication channels and offering appropriate referrals and support. The specialist is expected to model effective communication and recovery-oriented skills while assisting clients in identifying and achieving their personal recovery goals.

Responsibilities

  • Interact with clients in a therapeutic manner.
  • Model good communication skills, recovery-oriented living skills, effective coping skills, and self-help strategies for clients.
  • Assist clients in identifying personal recovery goals and setting objectives for each goal.
  • Determine interventions based on the client's recovery/life goals.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients to identify emotional, psychiatric, or behavioral changes that may require further intervention.
  • Advocate for appropriate resources for clients and third parties based on assessed needs.

Requirements

  • Four years of full-time paid experience in an appropriate mental health or human service field.
  • A Bachelor's Degree in a relevant mental health or human service field.
