About the position

The Mental Health Specialist II at Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care (UBHC) plays a crucial role in providing support and services to clients of the 988 Lifeline Services. This position involves assessing client needs through various communication methods and offering appropriate support and referrals. The specialist is expected to demonstrate therapeutic communication skills, assist clients in identifying recovery goals, and advocate for necessary resources, all while maintaining a client-centered approach.

Responsibilities

  • Interact with clients in a therapeutic manner.
  • Model good communication skills, recovery-oriented living skills, effective coping skills, and self-help strategies.
  • Assist clients in identifying personal recovery goals and setting objectives for each goal.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients to identify emotional, psychiatric, or behavioral changes that may require further intervention.
  • Advocate for appropriate resources for clients based on assessed needs.

Requirements

  • Four years of full-time paid experience in a mental health or human service field, or a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
