About the position

The Mental Health Specialist II at Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care (UBHC) is responsible for providing support and services to clients of the 988 Lifeline Services. This role involves assessing client needs through various communication channels, offering appropriate referrals, and advocating for resources. The specialist will model effective communication and recovery-oriented skills, assist clients in setting personal recovery goals, and document all interactions in accordance with established policies.

Responsibilities

  • Receive and respond to telephone, chat, and text requests for service.
  • Assess the service needs of clients and provide appropriate support and referrals.
  • Model good communication and recovery-oriented living skills to clients.
  • Assist clients in identifying personal recovery goals and setting objectives.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients to monitor emotional and behavioral changes.
  • Advocate for appropriate resources based on assessed client needs.
  • Document assessments, interventions, and interactions with clients in a timely manner.

Requirements

  • Four years of full-time paid experience in a mental health or human service field, or a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
