About the position
The Mental Health Specialist Sitter (MHS Sitter) plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of assigned patients in the Emergency Department. This position involves close collaboration with nursing staff to provide stimuli and support to patients, while also maintaining effective communication with all parties involved in the patient's care. The MHS Sitter is expected to utilize crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques as necessary, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for patients and their families.
Responsibilities
- Sit with assigned patients to ensure their safety and well-being.
- Assist nursing staff in providing stimuli and support to patients.
- Communicate effectively with all individuals involved in the patient's care.
- Deliver excellent customer service to patients, staff, and visitors.
- Utilize crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques as needed.
- Conduct safe individual activities with patients.
- Observe and intervene as necessary with patients and family members.
Requirements
- Must have strong observation and intervention skills.
- Proficient in interpersonal communication skills.
- Possess verbal communication skills for calm interactions with patients and families.
- BLS certification from the American Heart Association required.
- CPR & Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training and certification within 30 days of employment.
