About the position
The Mental Health Technician at Newport Healthcare plays a crucial role in providing support and supervision to adolescents in a therapeutic environment. This position is dedicated to fostering a safe and nurturing atmosphere for young individuals undergoing mental health treatment, ensuring their well-being and progress through compassionate care and structured activities.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and support adolescents individually and in groups at all times.
- Assist each adolescent in group activities and address individual problems.
- Administer support and set behavioral limits for residents.
- Document adolescent progress and communicate findings to professional staff.
- Facilitate the residential daily schedule, including chores, meal service, and activities.
- Practice safe vehicle operation when transporting residents for community outings.
- Maintain compliance with record-keeping and documentation requirements.
- Remain current on all required training for employment.
- Exhibit sound judgment and respect for the program's philosophy and practices.
- Provide engaged hospitality to all internal and external customers.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required.
- 6 months of experience working with children; or an associate's degree with 3 months of experience; or a bachelor's degree in human services preferred.
- Must be at least 21 years old.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience in a therapeutic or residential setting.
- Ability to communicate effectively with adolescents and their families.
- Skills in conflict resolution and crisis intervention.
