About the position

The Mental Health Worker (MHW) at UC Davis Health plays a crucial role in supporting the safety and well-being of patients in the Emergency Department. Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, the MHW assists in patient observation, routine care, and therapeutic activities, ensuring a calm and safe environment. This position is vital for preventing harm and contributing to patient treatment planning while maintaining a clean and organized department.

Responsibilities

• Provides observation for patient safety, assisting professional and technical personnel as needed (50%)
• Performs work duties and participates in cost containment efforts (30%)
• Maintains a clean and safe hospital environment (10%)
• Handles documentation and communication tasks (5%)
• Engages in personal and professional growth and development (5%)

Requirements

• De-escalation/behavioral health training, MAB Certification, or CPI Certification relevant training or experience
• American Heart Association (AHA) BLS CPR or UCDH-issued CPR Certification
• One (1) year experience in an Inpatient hospital setting
• Ability to read and write in English
• Proficient in using a computer and healthcare systems for documentation and communication
• Strong oral communication skills for effective interaction with patients and staff
• Ability to maintain courteous and tactful relationships with patients and clinicians
• Capacity to adjust workload under changing conditions and maintain confidentiality
• Must be able to safely lift 25 pounds and assist in moving patients and supplies exceeding 25 pounds
• Completion of Crisis Intervention Training within 3 months of hire, with annual training required
